Today is the shittiest day i’ve had in a while. To start things off, I woke up at 6:45 this morning to get to my summer school class (retaking geometry, ugh). I tried to get up but was immediately floored by a raging headache. To add to that, I have a sore throat, probably onset of a cold. In summer. Say bummer? anyways sometime around getting into the shower I realized my whole body is stiff as a board and my back hurts like I’m an 85-year-old NFL retiree. Should not happen to a dude who’s 17! Anyway I sat through 4 hours of math this morning, and now I’m in bed, trying to forget this morning ever happened. Except for the fact that i have a physical today in 40 minutes. fuck my life. Sitting here, I realize that its the little things that ruin my day more than the bigger, longer-term shit. My head hurts like anus right now, just putting it out there. So Nas is trying to regain some serious cred with his upcoming album Untitled, and a recently-dropped N–gger Mixtape, both of which hold some blazing lyrics chocked full of political & social commentary. Nas is still a dope rapper, no doubt, but he can’t hit it like he did with Illmatic anymore. No one can touch it. That said, check his new stuff out – but don’t forget the album that defined his career.
Nas is great, but GZA is legendary. They don’t call him ‘The Genius’ because he isn’t one. One of hip hop’s veterans, he has always delivered superb verses, and for the most part, stays out of the public eye (probably why he has lasted so long in this game). Liquid Swords is one hell of an LP. Can’t wait for Pro Tools, should be legit.
Pharcyde is back!!! Like fully, all the originals together again. They were so dope! I mean, they worked with the late, great J Dilla! The Mozart of the Beat! And all together again, with Fatlip, touring! I’m excited, I think it’s something I have to see. Here’s a track off of Fatlip’s solo album, The Loneliest Punk.
