In the past few weeks, Weezer dropped their cliché-ly named album, “The Red Album.” Whether it’s a play off of the Grey, Black, or White albums remains a mystery, but it was produced by Rick Rubin and is their first album since ’05’s “Make Believe.” As always, Weezer delivers again with feel good tracks that are always there to give you a good time if your paths should cross. However, this post is not entirely about their music.
One of the singles off of their last album is “Pork and Beans.” I reentered the conscious world this morning just as the music video for this track began on the tele, and let me tell you, it woke me right up. No, no car explosions or elaborate stories or even hot babes, this music video hits somewhere much closer to home, especially for what some people call Generation Y (that’s the ‘kids with their damn music” group). The secret weapon? You Tube.
That’s right, You Tube. Often mistaken by older people (Generation A – X) as an Apple product, You Tube has wormed its way into the lives of most everyone. This is precisely why this video is so successful: it takes those ‘viral videos’ and brings them all into one. From the dramatic groundhog, to “Numa Numa,” to Daft Punk, to “Shoes,” and even to “Chocolate Rain,” this short has the whole package, each with a little spin, and creates a video that is far more enjoyable than the catchy tune it accompanies. But who am I to say, take a look for yourself.
